a matter of American values
We need to protect Net Neutrality for the sake of the values on which our nation was founded. Every day more Americans become cynical and disengaged from the political process as they see, in their view, an America that is being sold to the highest corporate bidder. As the Internet becomes more and more a part of the fabric of each of our daily lives, it becomes increasingly important to keep it free: as a medium of communication and commerce for all people, not merely a source of profit for a few large businesses.

The way to keep America from being sold to the highest corporate bidder is to not offer it for sale.

That means limiting government, not expanding it.

Expanding the power of law makers and especially regulators means more cronyism between government and a few CEOs who can't compete without government favoritism.

We need to decrease government power to preserve American values.

After all, what is the greatest American value but liberty?

I appreciate jim.guiness' point of values, but let's be careful. Who are these "large businesses" that are using the Internet as a source of profit? Surely not the Internet service providers. Have you been watching the quarterly reports? Being in the ISP business is the kiss of death. Even while cash flow is significant, nearly all the money is reinvested in network infrastructure. Looking at the valuations of these companies, the stock market is voting that, with current business models, they will never make any return on invested capital.

If we take jim.guiness' point to the question of... who are the large companies making money? - - it will lead to the Googles of the world, whose business models depend on monopolistic behavior, invasion of privacy, and selling preferential Internet access (i.e., search) to the highest bidder. Now, there is something that the FCC - with support from Congress - should go after!
